 A
long time sheep farmer, Ben Calkins
started Great American Lamb Company
decades ago to provide premium,
all-natural, family farm produced lamb
for consumers who wanted lamb that was
delicious and of consistently superior
quality and healthfulness.
To develop consistently superior
quality, we first improved our flock
genetics. For the consumer, this means a
larger, leaner and overall higher
quality product. At the same time, Ben
infused in the family an appreciation
for raising animals “the right way.”
This means humane treatment and a
commitment to animal health and
well-being. All of our sheep spend most
of their lives on lush, green pastures,
and are only confined to the barn in the
cold Ohio winters!
 We
started supplying lamb to neighbors and
other close acquaintances that knew
about our farm and our premium,
all-natural, family farm produced lamb.
Everyone who tasted our lamb was
impressed by the mouth-watering taste
and tender texture of the lamb, not to
mention the healthfulness. As the
popularity for our lamb increased, Ben
realized that his farm needed to build
an additional marketing channel to
increase awareness and make our lamb
readily available to all consumers.
Ben Calkins decided to offer premium all

 Ben’s
son Brad has recently joined the team
and began managing Great American Lamb
Company in 2009. Meeting new customers
and maintaining superior customer
satisfaction is the top priority as he
travels to numerous
farmers’ markets
in Northeast Ohio through the spring and
summer.
